Samsung Bixby Smart Speaker Release Date Slated For Second Half Of 2018

International Business Times

Back in December, it was reported that Samsung's Bixby smart speaker would arrive sometime in the first half of 2018. However, Samsung's mobile division president DJ Koh has confirmed that will no longer be the case. Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, Koh confirmed that the voice-activated Bixby smart speaker will be released sometime during the second half of 2018. Koh didn't give out any more details about the upcoming smart speaker, but he did say that Samsung is aiming to release a premium device. "When I introduce the first model, I don't want to give the impression that Samsung delivered another affordable mass model," Koh said.

Pixel 2 XL review: A.I. magic on a 6-inch display

PCWorld

You'll want the Google Pixel 2 XL if you're looking for the purest, most elegant Android experience possible in a 6-inch phone. You'll want the Pixel 2 XL if you're looking for a stunning display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, amazing portrait photography, and a ton of surprise-and-delight features made possible by Google Lens and the rest of Google's A.I. tool chest. When the Pixel 2 XL was announced on Oct. 4, Google reminded us that its machine learning engine is watching our every move to improve its A.I. algorithms. So, yes, the Pixel 2 XL's ever-Googley magic tricks may keep robophobes up at night. And you'll rightfully want one it if you're due for a phone upgrade. But if you already own the original Pixel, your decision is more difficult. The Pixel 2 XL kicks ass, but much of what makes it special--stock Android, the Google Photos experience, Google Assistant in the home button, and Google Lens--are available in the first-generation Pixel phones, too. To this extent, the Pixel 2 XL (and the smaller Pixel 2, which I'll review soon) are victims of Google's success at creating a cloud-first, machine-learning platform that spans #MadeByGoogle devices. The Pixel 2 XL feels great in the hand. Before we drill down into features, let's get straight to Pixel 2 XL specs.

Samsung Galaxy S9 May Feature iPhone X Face ID Rival

International Business Times

Samsung may be looking to take on the iPhone X in 2018 by introducing a 3D image mapping sensor to the front camera of the Galaxy S9, tech informant, Ice Universe Tweeted Thursday. If true, this could indicate Samsung plans to make its facial recognition a lot more like Apple's. While Samsung released the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 with Face Unlock and iris scanning, the features have proven not be the safest biometrics security measures. Meanwhile, Apple claims its Face ID feature on the iPhone X has a one in a million chance of being spoofed. This claim hasn't yet been tested as Apple has so refrained from allowing the press to share official opinions on the device with several weeks left until its market launch.

With FaceID, Apple's iPhone X wades into Fifth Amendment gray area

PBS NewsHour

Apple this week unveiled its new iPhone X, and with it, a host of security concerns. Apple this week unveiled its new iPhone X as part of the smartphone's 10th birthday, and with it comes a host of security concerns. One of the major features of the iPhone X (X for the roman numeral 10) is FaceID, a facial recognition feature for unlocking the phone by just looking at it. Apple has a solid track record on personal privacy when it comes to securing its devices, but FaceID raises major issues, such as whether the tool be used against an owner's will to gain access to their phone or what happens if a hacker steals your facial identity? A staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union argued that law enforcement could use someone's face against their will to unlock their phone, possibly without violating the person's' Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.

How the Apple iPhone X Compares to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8

Boston Herald

When Samsung unveiled its Galaxy Note 8 smartphone last month, it was widely considered to be one of the most impressive phones ever. Although some may choose an Apple device merely because they're Apple fans--and visa versa for Samsung fans--not everyone is so willing to buy whatever their favored company offers. So, for those people and others who want to know which device is most appealing, Fortune has compiled the following comparison of what's good and bad in both new smartphones.

iPhone X Vs Galaxy Note 8 Price, Features And Release Date Comparison

International Business Times

Apple's new iPhone X is the next direction for the tech giant, which is known for making a statement in the mobile industry with its latest devices. The iPhone X commemorates the 10th anniversary of the iPhone brand, which was first unveiled in 2007. Since then, the device has morphed from Apple's efforts to go against the grain of the industry, to a showcase of all of the latest technology trends, interpreted in Apple fashion. The iPhone X follows the coattails of Samsung's latest smartphone, which released weeks prior as a continuation of the manufacturer's productivity focused niche line. Both devices signify a turning point in the industry, where companies now unabashedly promote the highest quality hardware for at some of the loftiest prices ever seen on the market.
